Steve Lawrence

Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met?

Members of U2 (Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry - yup, all 4).  Also bumped into Jimmy Fallon on an NBC studio tour.

How do you see God working in your life?
He’s continually challenging the status quo.  Without His influence in my life, I’m sure I’d be gradually turning into an angry, selfish person.  God finds unique ways to humble me, and yet offers me hope to get through the challenges I face each day.

What’s your idea of fun?
Fun is doing something different.  Something that takes you out of your routine, but that gives you a feeling of accomplishment—that can be anything from kayaking across a lake to finishing a home improvement project (particularly if it involves gadgets and remote controls!).

What’s on your ipod?

A lot of U2, DC Talk, Newsboys, Keane, and Ocean Colour Scene…

What’s your favorite thing to do on Cape?

Play miniature golf at Pirate’s Cove.  I normally lose to my wife, but have great fun doing so.

What strengthens you?
Reading the Bible each day.  It sounds like a stock answer, but it is truly amazing how a short devotional each morning can have such a profound effect on the way my day goes.

What do you do for a living?
I am a research manager for State Street Global Markets.  I look at global investor activity around the world and try to make sense of their behaviour.

Favorite snack food?

British chocolates and sweets.

When did you become a Christian?

I made a commitment to Christ in 1985 at Spring Harvest, a Christian vacation event in the United Kingdom.

What’s your favorite movie?
Probably Blade Runner--one of those science fiction movies that was ahead of its time.  It’s kind of spooky to look at it now and see what has already happened.  I’m not sure why we don’t have flying cars, though.

Where else do you volunteer?
I used to be Tim the Beaver, the mascot from MIT; but since my wife left her job at MIT, I don’t get to volunteer in that role anymore.  Not doing that leaves a hole in my life…a big furry hole with goofy teeth and a tail.
